Before this, Ryan spent years as a civil engineer working on developments, bringing joinery, plumbing, electrical and roofing businesses onto projects. Getting to know them, the same thing kept coming up. He'd be chatting to an owner or project manager about a job that might run three weeks, and he'd ask a simple question: what have you got lined up after this?
More often than not, the answer was the same. "We're not sure yet." Three weeks sounds like a while, but it goes fast, and then there's nothing to move onto. That unpredictability, never quite knowing where the next job is coming from, is one of the most stressful problems trade businesses live with.
